Laurie Wetterschneider named 2016 Luncheon Honoree
Please join us in celebrating Laurie Wetterschneider as the Women’s Foundation of Southern Arizona’s 2016 Luncheon Honoree.
Known as the biggest charitable luncheon event in Tucson, the 2016 Luncheon–our 25th annual–will take place at the Tucson Convention Center on April 20, 2016. Proceeds raised at the Luncheon support critical Women’s Foundation programs, expanding cutting-edge grantmaking for women and girls, growing award-winning programs like Unidas, organizing advocacy efforts and commissioning research projects.
No stranger to fundraising, our Honoree Laurie Wetterschneider has raised millions of dollars in her lifetime to support a variety of causes locally and nationally.
As Laurie tells it, she has been blessed to have had three careers–all of which she absolutely loved: radio, non-profit and now jewelry design. After earning her bachelor’s degree at age 19 in just two years from the University of Arizona, she began her career in radio, and at age 24, she became the first female general manager/owner of a radio station here in Tucson.
“I am so pleased that my friend Laurie Wetterschneider has been selected as the Women’s Foundation’s 2016 Honoree. She served two terms as an active Women’s Foundation Board member and continues her involvement as an advocate, generous donor and member of the Advisory Council,” said Mary Ann Dobras, fellow Advisory Council member and Women’s Foundation supporter. “Laurie is highly regarded in our community as a committed board member to several organizations, a generous donor and an experienced fund development professional,” Dobras shared.
Laurie started Laurie and Lisa Designs in 2003 with her sister Lisa Peterson. The company donates hundreds of pieces of jewelry to charity annually as well as proceeds from the sales of their jewelry. She says jewelry design fulfills her love of supporting charities while also allowing her to use her Fine Arts degree earned at the University of Arizona and meet many wonderful people.
“Laurie is a woman who leads with strength, compassion, and style. No matter which community Laurie is living in or connected with, you can count on her to be raising funds with jewelry sales, creating awareness about needs, and taking action,” said Women’s Foundation Co-founder Melody Robidoux. “I admire Laurie’s long time commitment to Women’s Foundation, and I treasure the Laurie and Lisa Designs necklace that I received when I was honored by the Foundation. Laurie is a Tucson treasure,” Robidoux continued.
The Women’s Foundation is honored to recognize Laurie Wetterschneider for her lifetime achievements and inspiring generosity. Mark your calendars now and plan to join us on April 20, 2016.
