Alexis is a sophomore at Mountain View High School. Her favorite class is history and she enjoys playing soccer and volleyball in her free time. She loves to read, listen to music, shop for shoes, hang out with her friends and family. When she graduates she wants to be a dentist.
Alice is a junior at Catalina Foothills High School. She plays the violin and the piano. She is very artistic and is looking into graphic design as a career path. Her experience in Unidas last year set her on the path to joining the Pima County/Tucson Women’s Commission and Governor’s Youth Commission.
Carley is a junior at Catalina Foothills High School. She is half-Cuban and half-American. She loves to sing, loves to dance and loves dark chocolate. She has two mottos that she always tries to remember: “live without regrets” and “one comment can change the world.” Carley likes to stomp rather than walk through life.
Claudia is a junior at Cholla High Magnet School. As a student and leader, she excels in her courses and also takes pride in her involvement in extra-curricular activities. Claudia is on the Women’s Foundation Board of Trustees. Her career goal is to become a psychiatrist for mentally ill patients and to support her clients. She wants to make a positive change in the world and to encourage other girls and women to follow her steps.
Colleen is a junior at Salpointe Catholic High School. Her family is a real inspiration to her. She loves to Irish Dance and has been dancing for 11 years. She also enjoys singing, reading, shopping and hanging out with her friends. At school she is a member of the French Club, National Honors Society and Students Against Drunk Driving. She also enjoys taking yoga and salsa classes. Last year, Colleen was a Rotary Exchange Student in France.
Dené is a freshman at Pima Community College where she is majoring in psychology and minoring in Spanish. She is proud to be a Catholic, Mexican-American woman. She respects the women of history who were strong, confident and innovative. She looks forward to helping extend the rights of women and hopes to empower women in society. Dené is on the Women’s Foundation Board of Trustees. Dené is pursuing a career in law.
Elena is a junior at Catalina Foothills High School. Some of her extra-curricular activities consist of tennis, piano, and the literary magazine. She loves sports, and is a huge fan of the Wildcats Men Basketball team. Elena also enjoy reading; her favorite book is Of Human Bondage by Maugham. Some other books that she really likes are The Phantom of the Opera, The Three Musketeers, and East of Eden. This past summer she spent three weeks at Bryn Mawr College in Philadelphia where she took the Urban Studies strand of Writing for College. It was a great experience, and led her to truly love Philadelphia, where she hopes to one day go to school.
Emily is a senior at Canyon Del Oro High School. Her passionate pursuits include science, history and the empowerment of women. Emily participated in last year’s Unidas group and enjoyed the experience enourmously and is a mentor this year. She is an advocate affiliated with the Heifer International and teaches their vision of ending world hunger to local elementary school students throughout Tucson. Emily plans to attend college and graduate school with an emphasis in science, business and philanthropy.
Erin is a junior at University High School. She volunteers in the Tucson community and is currently on the Women’s Foundation Board of Trustees and is a member of the volunteer staff at the Tucson Children’s Museum. Erin is also an active fellow with the Tucson Region of the National Hispanic Institute.
India is a freshman at Howenstine Magnet High School. She loves the outdoors and enjoys riding her ATV (quad) through the desert. She like dancing, art, creative writing and music, having played the saxophone for three years. India’s lifetime goal is to help those in need and to make the world a better place.
Isabella is a sophomore home-schooled student. She also attends Pima Community College part time where she is studying American Sign Language and Guitar. Isabella plays the violin in Chamber II of Junior Strings and has been singing with the Tucson Girls Chorus for 8 years. She loves animals and is an apprentice with a local veterinarian. Isabella enjoys reading, writing, baking, hiking, biking, acting, eating chocolate, traveling, hanging out with friends and listening to and playing music.
Jessica is a junior at Ironwood Ridge High School. She loves to dance, read history and fantasy books and watching UofA basketball. She is a strong honors student and is also involved in Key Club, People Club and Science Club. When Jessica attends college she would like to major in history.
Karys is a senior at Ironwood Ridge High School. This is her first year with Unidas, but she has worked with other grant writing and philanthrophy programs, such as The Every Voice in Action FoundationTM Youth Crew. With the end of her senior year fast approaching, she spends a lot of her time working on college applications and taking challenging classes in preparation for the future. Apart from academics, she also enjoys music, athletics and other clubs. She plays the flute, horn and trumpet and was the Drum Major of the Nighthawk Vanguard. Cross-Country and Track have also been great aspects of her high school career. To top it all off she has had the pleasure of working a handful of jobs as well as being a part of National Honor’s Society and the Principal's School Council.
Lauren is a junior at Sahuaro High School. She was raised in California, and recently returned to her birthplace of Tucson. She is very interested in politics and hopes someday to pursue a career as a lobbyist. In her free time she likes to hang out with friends, talk on the phone and campaign for local politicians.
Parker is a junior at Cholla High Magnet School and is an active member of their acting troupe. She likes to hang out with friends, watch and make movies. She wears what she wants to even if it is not ‘in style.’ She aspires to attend Stanford University. Parker wants to move to London and become a journalist or work at the Museum of Natural History.
Sophie is a senior at University High School and is very active in her school and community. At school she is involved with the Key Club, film club and Student Advisory Board. She is the captain of the varsity tennis team, and I also swam on the swim team. She volunteers at her little brother’s pre-school on a regular basis, and they love running errands together and dancing to Latin rap. She is fluent in Spanish and Italian and is currently studying Chinese. She has studied abroad in Chile, Mexico and Italy.
