Unidas Class of 2008-09

Erin Cain-Hodge
Tucson Magnet High School

My name is Erin Cain-Hodge; I am 16 years old. I am currently a junior at Tucson Magnet High School. I play the viola in the Advance Orchestra at Tucson High. I love to read books and to snorkle. I want to go to a women's college and I hope to study Neuroscience or Behavioral Psychology with a Minor in Women's Studies.

Ellen Campbell
Catalina Foothills High School

This is Ellen Campbell's second year of participating in Unidas. She is a strong academic junior at Catalina Foothills High School, and also runs varsity track for her school. She found Unidas through her mom's involvement with the Women's Foundation, and Ellen is very passionate about the work she has done with us. Ellen hopes to contribute to Unidas this year to make it as strong as it has been the previous years.

Alma Hernandez
Tucson High Magnet School

My name is Alma Hernandez. I'm 18 years old and currently a senior at Tucson High Magnet School. I love to run; I'm in cross country and in the spring I join Track and Field. I am also part of MEChA and Arcus at School. Unidas interested me because it talked about philanthropy, social change and helping out the community. From this program, I'd like to get experience in helping out non-profit organizations and communities and be a part of something bigger than me! And I'd also like to get to know the girls in the program and make new friends.

Cassondra Jones
Catalina Foothills High School

Cassondra Jones--I am just a girl, a girl who's always wanted to help the world, make it better in one way or another. After experiencing Unidas last year, I am left feeling encouraged and more driven to help young women and girls in the community. I am definitely not a 4.0 student, but that won't hold me back from the things that matter most to me in life--helping those who cannot seem to help themselves. I hope to one day help hundreds, even thousands. I dream to truly impact this world in the most positive way possible.

Charlene Kim
Catalina Foothills High School

I'm Charlene Kim and am 15 yrs old. I am a sophomore at Catalina Foothills High School and am overjoyed to be a part of the Unidas program. I play the violin and am a member of the Tucson Philharmonia Youth Orchestra. I also volunteer at the Tucson Children's Museum and Urgent Care Center. Unidas has given me the opportunity to be an active speaker and help the community. I hope to learn more about funding other organizations and improve the lives of both women and girls.

Maria Lopez
Tucson High Magnet School

My name is Maria Lopez; I am 17 years old and attend Tucson High Magnet School. I became interested in participating in the Unidas program because I wish to learn more about philanthropy and the power of today's youth. As a member of Unidas I hope to positively contribute my opinions and experiences as well as gain new knowledge and lessons for life.

Isabella Lowery
Pima Community College

Isabella Lowery is a seventeen year old senior home-schooled student and a full-time student at Pima Community College. She enjoys reading, hiking, playing with her two dogs, and so much more. She plays the violin in the Tucson Philharmonia Youth Orchestra as well as Irish and Bluegrass Fiddle. She is a graduate of the Greater Tucson Youth Leadership program at the Volunteer Center and is excited to come back to Unidas for a third awesome year.

Christina Nardolillo
Tucson High School

Christina Nardolillo--As a senior at BASIS Tucson High School, I am currently in the midst of applying to colleges all over the east coast. I absolutely love reading, writing after everyone has gone to sleep, playing guitar and piano, and singing. My dream is to bring all that I can to the world, and contribute what I can in order to better the lives of people all over the world.

Kathrine Nelson
Canyon Del Oro High School

Kathrine Nelson is a sixteen year old junior attending Canyon Del Oro High School. She currently participates in Canyon Players and enjoys spending time with her family, friends, and sisters of Unidas. Her favorite activities include, learning, laughing, teaching her little sister gymnastics and helping her friends with their problems. She participates in Unidas because of her overwhelming desire to help those who cannot help themselves. She hopes to spend the year learning all she can and finally bringing joy to all the people our group will help.

Nneka Uzoamaka Okonkwo
Tucson High Magnet School

My name is Nneka Uzoamaka Okonkwo. I am currently a junior at Tucson Magnet High School. I'm extremely active on my school campus. The activities that I participate in are: Student council, Student Ambassador, National Honors Society, Students for Barack Obama and African-American Culture Club. Outside of school one of my passions is to present to adults and teenagers about the disparities of HIV/AIDS in the minority communities and to women. Being a part of Unidas will give me a chance to explore how organizations receive the money to fund their programs. It will also allow me to find out what programs are underfunded that produce positive results to the Tucson community.

Allie Vincent
Salpointe Catholic High School

My name is Allie Vincent and I am in 10th grade at Salpointe Catholic High School. I am sixteen years old. Some of my hobbies are running, hanging out with friends and shopping. I am very social and love people. I love doing volunteer work and things for our community, which is one of the reasons I joined Unidas. I am very excited about being part of it and learning more about women in Tucson. My school, Salpointe, has many opportunities for charity work and I try to take up as many as I can!

Alexa Wong
Catalina Foothill High School

Hi, my name is Alexa Wong. I attend Catalina Foothill High School. I'm a 10th grader and love it. Unidas is a place where you can cherish and bring your true self out.  It will help shape my future and help me become the person I want to be.

Darijn Zwart
Catalina Foothill High School

My name is Darijn Zwart, and I am a 16-year-old sophomore attending University High School. Most people know me by Dari, though, as my Dutch name is difficult to pronounce. I am an avid swimmer, and dedicate a lot of my time to the UHS swimming program. I also enjoy reading, writing, baking, watching movies, and hanging out my friends from all the different schools I have attended over the years. I am interested in participating in Unidas because not only does it give me a voice in my community, but because I hope it will give other girls a voice as well. I want to make a difference, and believe that Unidas will be a stepping stone in my way to help make this world a better place.
