Donate for the Unidas Challenge

 2012-13 Group

Unidas is the Women’s Foundation philanthropy program for high-school aged young women in Tucson. “Unidas” is the feminization of the Spanish word for “United.” The program gives young women the opportunity to make grants to support the type of social change important to them. Throughout the eight-month program, qualified applicants gain hands-on experience in community service, research, fundraising, public speaking and grant-making – all centered around helping to improve the quality of life for women and girls in Southern Arizona.

Our 2013 grant cycle is now closed.

For information about Unidas or applying for a Unidas grant, contact Laura Penny at lpenny@womengiving.org or (520) 622-8886.

Our 2013 Grantees:
Edge High School – Empower Me Project
The Empower Me Project is a 18 week program for young women attending Edge High School designed to build their confidence and self-efficacy while developing a strong vision for their future.  Examining healthy relationships, and healthy body image, effective communication strategies, conflict resolution, career exploration, and financial management, young women will create, practice, and revise personal action steps to take control of their lives.
Esperanza Dance Project
The Esperanza Dance Project is a multi-media performance project whose mission is to raise awareness, create visibility and educate teens and adults about childhood sexual abuse, sexual assault and healthy sexuality/relationships, through the use of specific age-appropriate high school educational curriculum; dance/performance/visual art assemblies; language/writing activities; post and pre-performance educational community supported and teen-led discussion sessions; and on-going teen peer advocacy by project members and high school students.  Through integrated assembly tours throughout Tucson public, charter and other high schools, EDP strives not only to educate, create visibility through art, and provide resources for teen advocacy, but also to deliver a message of hope, strength and empowerment for primarily teen to young adult audiences which models methods of community conversation and peer-led engagement.
