Through nonpartisan, evidence-based research, we uncover economic realities

By shining a light on the barriers and opportunities facing women and girls in Arizona, we keep research and lived experiences at the foundation of everything we do.

Women and Girls of All Identities in Arizona: Key Research Findings

We inform policy, drive systemic change, and guide our programs and partnerships to create a more equitable Arizona for all.

  • Pay gap: Women working full time earn about 83¢ for every $1 men earn in Arizona. The gap is larger for women of color, with Black women earning about 64¢ and Latinas about 53¢ compared to white men. That’s a loss of over $280,000 over a lifetime career.
  • Childcare costs: Full-time infant care averages about $61 per day, with annual childcare costs around $13,000 or more for many families.
  • Paid leave gap: Arizona has no statewide paid family and medical leave program for private-sector workers, unlike a growing number of other states.
  • Women’s poverty: About 15% of women in Arizona ages 18–44 live below the federal poverty line.
  • Philanthropy gap: Groups specifically serving women and girls receive about 1.9% of total U.S. charitable giving.
  • Outdated poverty measure: Research shows the federal poverty guideline understates the real cost of living, with many families above the poverty line still unable to meet basic needs.

Research and lived experiences together shape smarter, more effective policies.
